The Andaman People are newly found, and still have many doubts about "outsiders". This causes for limited information about them. A way some researchers have found to gather second hand data about the Andaman people is to study tribes around them, one of them being the Jarawa. This page will include a lot of information on the Jarawa, a tribe proven to be very similar to the Andaman. The social structure, home organization, and community values are nearly the exact same because both tribes live on the same islands- the Andaman.
When researchers studied a Jarawa tribe, they found a community with about 10 huts in it (see figure 1 & 3). This community had a central firepit with about ten houses (Chaddas) around it. Bee-hive in structure, these huts had thatched roofs made from cane and palm leaves. They were home to about 25 Jarawas. The houses were 3 feet high and 6 feet square with skulls hanging along the edges. The entire village was about 20 yards across. It was nestled inside of a jungle with a small river running along the outskirts. Many villages like these can be seen along the Andaman Trunk Road (see figure 2).
Marriage generally occurs with adolescents. Children ages six and up are moved out of their parents homes. The children then move around with the other
older children until they get married ("Andamanese Islands" 2017).

The Andaman Trunk Road was one technological advancements that brought both harm and help. The Indian Cultural Services recognized the border it placed among the tribes. They also realized that building this road would cause modernization of the tribes. Afteer this road was built more Andaman people were put into jail because they were drunk or on the use of drugs. Never before had Andaman people drank or used drugs. Although the ATR has many obvious negatives, it also helps transport goods. Also, the Andaman people are eating healthier. Neither the pros nor the cons have outweighed one another which has resulted in no action being taken against the ATR. It is currently being heavily used by tourists of the Andaman Islands (Chaki 2017)
